Lloyd Walter Anderson

Lloyd Anderson of Powell River passed away on Saturday, October 1, at the age of 95 in Powell River. He was born on Savary Island to Louis N. Anderson and Lulu Irene (née Palmer) on September 6, 1921. Lloyd’s father was one of the first settlers to the island.

Lloyd started school in Galley Bay, then later at Tenedos Bay, Salmon Bay and Toba Inlet. After the death of his father, Lloyd, at age eight, moved to Lang Bay where he attended Stillwater School. He completed grade 10, then, at the age of 16, he went to work as a logger, millworker and millwright. For many years, Lloyd worked for Morton Industries at Lang Bay.

Lloyd had a brilliant mind and was always inventing things. His harmonica playing always delighted his grandchildren as they played the “spoons” along with him. His happiest memories were in his little yacht, running back and forth between Westview boat harbour and Lang Bay, catching fish after a day at work.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents and first wife Edith, stepsons Larry and Terry Gouthro, his second wife Hazel and siblings Jimmy, Andre, Terrance, Sylvia, Pearl and Julie. He is survived by stepdaughter Melodie Thomas, her two children and seven grandchildren; stepdaughter Virgina Saul, daughter-in-law Carol Gouthro, grandchildren Dawn (Ed), Corinne (Norm) and Larry (Darlene) and their children. Lloyd also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and longtime friends John Mayer and Bob Monteith.

Lloyd’s family and friends will miss his “Happy, happy” attitude and his warmth and kindness. He was a true inspiration to all those who knew him.

Lloyd’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful caring staff at Willingdon Creek Village and to Dr. Schweitzer for Lloyd’s care over the years.

There will be no service as per request.
