G. Kenneth Wate

We wish to announce the peaceful passing of Ken on Monday, August 3. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy and brother Bill. Left to mourn are his son Doug (Anne), daughters Barbara (Bill), and Jean (Dan); five grandchildren Theresa (Kevin), Sarah, Matthew, Jason and Christine; and three great-grandchildren Linden, Dane and Kaleb.

Dad was born February 2, 1923 and grew up in Vancouver, BC attending Magee High School. He completed a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Upon graduation, Dad moved to Powell River and was employed as an engineer at Powell River Company’s pulp and paper mill until his retirement in 1983. Dad met Mum, the love of his life, and they were married on July 15, 1949. He loved to ski, curl, play tennis, badminton and golf. He loved music and was an active member of Powell River Chorus and Men’s Choir. We will cherish many memories spent with him, especially Dad climbing Mt. Diadem with three pairs of skis strapped to his back!

Grateful thanks to those who cared for Dad over the years at Kiwanis Manor, Powell River General Hospital and Willingdon Creek Village. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 18 at 1:30 pm at Powell River Reformed Church, 4372 Padgett Road, with reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Powell River Reformed Church or a charity of your choice.

Cheerio Dad, you are with Mum again!

Freeda June Parsons ~ June 18, 1921 - August 7, 2015

A new day was dawning and the crickets were chirping a farewell song to this farm girl who passed away with her loving family surrounding her. Freeda was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1972. She is survived by her sister Maple, children Tom (Elsie), John (Marilyn), Pat, Allen (Maureen), Fred (Dawn), Lucy Stroomer (Tony), 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren.

Freeda was a “Riveting Rosie” for the Powell River Company during the second World War. It was here that she met her future husband. Several years after their marriage, Freeda and Walter purchased her parents’ homestead in Paradise Valley, where they raised their six children.

On the farm Mom felt very connected to the land, growing a wonderful vegetable garden, milking cows and riding

horses, all the while being a caring, loving mother to her children. She knew how to catch fish from the pond for a meal or how to bravely protect her family and livestock when she shot a marauding bear.

In her later years, she was the best grandmother a child could ask for. She read stories and baked pies with them and posted their art work on the fridge.

Mom had a great sense of humour, so she enjoyed people and easily made friends. She loved her companions at Evergreen Extended Care Unit and they cherished her. Staff at the extended care unit were very kind to her and we want to thank them so much for their compassion when caring for her. Mom loved you all.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14 at 1 pm at Powell River United Church. Should you wish, please make a donation in her name to the charity of your choice.

Mom, we love you to bits and miss you greatly but you will always remain in our hearts. And yes, as you told us to be, we will be strong and we will be tender to each other in the days ahead.

God Bless, the family.

Peter Addy Wilson ~ March 20, 1936 - July 23, 2015

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Left to mourn him are his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine, children Micheal (Joanne), Colleen (Rod) and Erin (Brent), and grandchildren Ryan, Emily and Samantha. He was predeceased by his son Patrick in 2015.

Peter was a gentle, kind-hearted man who lived his life with great integrity. He was quick to lend a hand and volunteer his time. He coached minor hockey and baseball. At work he started as a shop steward with Local 76, later taking a position on the union executive for many years. Peter was committed to equality for all. He next turned his attention to becoming a board member of First Credit Union. Through these many endeavors, he made life-long friends and touched many lives.

His family will miss his smile, great sense of humour and Irish charm. He was a remarkable man.
