Irene Taylor Livingstone

January 20, 1943 - January 17, 2016

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, the family announces the passing of Iain’s dear wife and loving mother of Brian (Beth), Julie (Cody) and grandsons Scott and Jordie. Irene was predeceased by grandson Cameron James.

Surviving Irene in Scotland are sisters Gina (Jimmy) and Ethel, brother Richard (Christine), nieces Victoria (Craig), Wendy,  Janet (Brian), Lesley (Michael), Karen (Douglas), Fiona, and Pamela (Sean) and nephews Iain (Jennifer) and Andrew (Cheryl).

Irene and Iain were married in 1961 and arrived in Canada (Ladysmith) in 1968. They moved to Powell River in 1970. Irene started working at Woolworth’s in 1973, then Woolco, before retiring from Walmart in 2007. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Ladies Club for more than 40 years, a three-time champion with Powell River Dart Association and enjoyed playing golf at Nootka Dunes Golf Club and Myrtle Point Golf Club. Far surpassing Irene’s love for knitting, walking, muffins and BBC-TV shows was her love and passion for her family, in particular her grandsons.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Halvorson, Dr. Takhar and Powell River General Hospital emergency room staff Joanna, Steve and Keith for their strenuous efforts in trying to keep Irene with us.

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at Carlson Community Club on Saturday, January 30 at 1 pm.

Lorraine Adele Riel

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt on December 25, 2015, at the age of 77. Lorraine has gone home after a brief but brave battle with cancer. She was loved by all who knew her and we rejoice in her homecoming with our Lord and Savior.

Lorraine is survived by her five beautiful children: Lorie Ann McGill and granddaughters Shandy and Angela; Louise Draeger and Dan Dorman, grandson Jacob; Norman and Jamie Draeger, grandchildren Liam, Kylie and Trey; Sam and Naomi Draeger, grandchildren Kean and Rain; and Joy and Wade King, grandchildren Chad, Jade and Sara. Also missing Lorraine are her beloved fur-grandchildren Rocky, Tonka, Samsam and Chevy 2.

Lorraine was predeceased by her mother Anna Meta Riel, father Gilbert Babe Riel, brothers Norman and Samuel and nephew Maurice.

Lorraine’s beauty and grace will be sorely missed by all who had the honour and privilege of knowing her. Her love for God was strong and unwavering. She gave all of herself to Him and her family.

Florence Lillian Willes

May 14, 1927 - January 3, 2016

Flo passed away suddenly after a brief illness. In her later years she was happy spending time with friends, her cats and knitting. Flo was born in Vancouver and worked at Safeway before moving to Texada at the age of 28. She started a clothing store called The Fashion Room and for many years supplied Texada women with the latest fashions. Flo then worked as a home support aid until her retirement.

Flo was a faithful member of the United Church and a dedicated volunteer for many community causes. She served as secretary-treasure of the Van Anda TV Association for 40 years. Flo was a kind and generous person and will forever have a special place in our hearts.

The family would like to thank Dr. Black and nurses at Texada Island Health Centre and Intensive Care Unit doctors and nurses at Powell River General Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at Texada Island United Church Saturday, February 13 at 1 pm.
