Antoinette “Anne” Cressy (née Maleska)

July 17, 1953 - November 4, 2015

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Anne, surrounded by the love of her family: husband Courtney, brother John Maleska his wife Michelle and sons Aaron, Jarod and Rory.

Anne would say, “play, smile, think of me, pray for me, I’m just around the corner. All will be well.”

No service by request. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.

 

Gary Graham

Kathleen invites you to a gathering for her late husband Gary on Sunday, November 22, from noon to 2 pm at Cranberry Seniors Centre.

Gary quietly and lovingly served the community by growing bedding plants and produce for their booth at the Open Air  Farmers’ Market.

 

Angelina Harris (née Vodola)

August 29, 1950 - November 07, 2015

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother and Nana, Angie.

Angie leaves behind her husband of 44 years Phil, sons Jason (Sherry) and Dean (Dianne), daughter Leah (Greg), her beloved grandchildren Makenna, Sydney, Ranae, Jacob, and Blair, mother Margherita Vodola, and sister Maria (Jim) Bartfai. She was predeceased by her father Vito Vodola, and brother Sandy Vodola.

Angie was born in Ruvo Del Monte, Italy and came to Canada at the age of three. She spent her childhood in Creston, BC and came to Powell River in 1966. After finishing high school, she started her career working at the Bank of Montreal where she made many lifelong friends and her customers brought her great joy. At the age of 21 she met the love of her life. Phil and Angie were married September 25, 1971 and soon started a family of their own.

Angie enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling, camping, and playing with her grandkids.

She was loved for her words of wisdom, kind personality, and enthusiasm for life, no matter what obstacles she faced. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives were enriched by her devotion to her family and friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Hoffert, Dr. Burns, the oncology unit, and the nurses on the fourth floor who cared for her though her courageous fight. Many thanks to her friends and family for their love and support over the years.

Prayers will be held Thursday, November 12 at 7 pm at Church of the Assumption

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, November 13 at 1 pm at Church of the Assumption. A reception will follow immediately after at the Italian Community Hall.

 

Bronislaw “Bruno”Laska

July 29, 1923 - November 6, 2015

Everyone is invited to attend a mass on Saturday, November 21 at 1 pm at the Church of the Assumption, 7109 Glacier Street, in Powell River. The service will close with a Legion Tribute. Reception to follow in the Church hall.

 

Peter Middleton Mathews

Pete Mathews died peacefully at the age of 96 in Powell River, BC.

Born September 7, 1919 in North Vancouver, BC. He lived his formative years in Smithers, BC and went to sea at the age of 16 on the Empress of Japan. He served in the Canadian Merchant and Royal Navies during World War 2, berthing in every port in the world at the time. At the war’s end in 1946 he received a foreign-going masters certificate.

In 1949 he accepted a posting to Francois Lake to serve as senior captain on the ferry, Jacob Henkel. He moved his family from Salmon Arm, BC to Southbank, BC in 1950 where he lived until 1969, retiring in Fauquier, BC in 1978.

Peter was predeceased by his first wife Mary, sons Don and Dana, grandsons Peter and Brodie, granddaughter Carly, and son-in-law Phil. He is survived by his wife Agnes, sons Bryan and Hal, daughters Ida and Sally, 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Pete lived life with a sense of purpose. He was a true gentleman who loved nature and always knew where true north was, in every sense. We will miss, but never forget, Pete. Smooth sailing, oh captain, my captain.

A celebration of his life will be held next summer.

 

Joachim Philipzig

April 2, 1948 - November 1, 2015

With extreme sorrow, I would like to announce the sudden and tragic loss of Joachim.

Joachim is survived by soul mate Lucretia and furry partner in crime Otto, as well as Lorna, Karen and Rikki. He was predeceased by his son Jason, mother Helga and father Fred.

A celebration of life will be held at the Carlson Club on Saturday, November 14, at 1 pm. Please use the downstairs entrance.

A loss of a great friend and seaman of the Canadian Coast Guard.

 

Dinah M. Woods

December 4, 1940 - November 3, 2015

Dinah passed away peacefully at the Burnaby Hospital after a yearlong battle with breast cancer. She was a longtime resident of Powell River.

Dinah was predeceased by her sister-in-law Betty (Dixie) and stepdaughter Ann Marie. She is survived by husband Danny, son Rob Wright (Janice), daughter Michele Sauve (Jeff), stepdaughter Donna Gillis (Sam), sisters Delia (Dennis), Dulcie (Phil), Vicky, and brother Dixie, grandchildren Danica, Natasha, Jacob, Blaze and many nieces and nephews. She was surrounded by love when she passed and was not alone or afraid.

We all miss Dinah very much. No service by request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
