HUME, William Barrie Gordon ~ Aug 24, 1941 - Aug 31, 2015

Barrie peacefully rode out on his own horse on the evening of August 31st, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife Bernice (Charlie) of 51 years, his only son Terry (TD) and daughter in law Tracy (WD) and Grandchildren Stephen and Katryna of Maple Ridge. Pre-deceased by his mother Phyllis May Mc Nary in 2006. Through out Barrie’s life he touched a great number of people through his passion of boating, fishing and gambling. He will be missed by his family, many close friends and his CP Rail buddies. Barrie and Bernice moved to Powell River when he retired from CP Rail over 25 years ago. Barrie neverlooked back or came back to the Ridge area again. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC SPCA may be made and would be appreciated. Barrie’s wishes were very clear; there will be no service or celebration of life. There will be a toast to Barrie at a later date; to be announced. Barrie will be remembered for his tenacity for life and his easy going attitude.

Alfred (Fred) Agius ~ 1946 - 2015

After a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his friends and family, Alfred passed away at the age of 69 years, on Saturday, September 12 at Powell River General Hospital. He was born on March 9, 1946 in Birkirkara or B'Kara, Malta. He moved to Powell River in May of 1963. He is known to many by his love and passion for making his “little freddies”.

He loved to go fishing, hunting, and to garden. His carrots have brought many smiles to the children of the neighbourhood. He is survived by his sister Rose and brothers John, Edwin and Salvino; children Tracy  (Willy), Shane (Aurora); grandchildren Mykle (Emma), Jonathon, Joey, Danny, Amanda (Nigel), Samantha and Cody and his precious great-grand babies Ophelia, Austin and Owen, and many other close relatives and countless friends.

There will be a service at the Church of the Assumption on September 19, 2015 at 1 pm and a celebration of life honouring Fred on September 19 from 2-5 pm at the Carlson Community Club upstairs. Our family would like to send our gratitude to the palliative home care that Fred received while he was still at home as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Powell River General Hospital for the wonderful care he received during his short stay. Their tender care and compassion for Fred during his time will never be forgotten.

Janet Patricia O’Neil Hillen Robertson ~ April 22, 1939 -September 7, 2015

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother Janet on September 7, 2015 at Powell River General Hospital. Predeceased by her son Bryan, she will be truly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Alex of 51 years, and children Stephen (Lisa), Ailison (Bruce) and Jennifer (Adam) as well as her grandchildren Charmaine, Kyle, Haley, Lee-Ann and Marissa and great-grand-daughter Kyla. Predeceased by her sister Helen, brothers Brian and Peter, she is survived by her sister Margaret (Rudy) and brother Charles (Anne). She also leaves many, many nieces and nephews who all loved their Aunt Janet.

Born and raised in Paisley, Scotland, she went on to marry River with the two boys. The Scottish community here welcomed them and those friendships were lifelong lasting. She was proud to call Powell River her home. Mom loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, and took any opportunity to gather us all together. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who always put our needs before her own. We are so grateful to have made so many happy memories that we can cherish forever. Mom enjoyed spending time with her Legion friends and was an avid cinch player. We will miss you forever and remember you often.

“Sending our love always.”

A memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 6811 Alexander Street, Powell River, Saturday September 19, 2015, 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to The Royal Canadian Legion, Powell River or the Canadian Cancer Society.

James (Jim) Oliver Bogle

Mr. James (Jim) Oliver Bogle of Powell River, BC died suddenly but peacefully on Thursday, September 10 at the age of 80 at Powell River General Hospital.

Jim was born in Roblin, Manitoba, on November 20, 1934. One of five brothers and two sisters, Jim was the first son of Scottish parents to be born in Canada. As a young man, Jim travelled to Calgary for the Calgary Stampede and never looked back, settling in Calgary and pursuing his passion in aviation. This lead him to work for more than 30 years at the Calgary Airport, retiring in 1994 as Vice President/General Manager of Executive Flight Centre.

In 1958, Jim married Lavonne Becker and the couple had one daughter, Enola Gay. Jim had an amazing, vibrant sense of humour. He was an avid fisherman, retiring to Texada Island and in recent years moving to Powell River as his health declined with Parkinson's disease.

Jim will be missed dearly by his surviving wife Lavonne, daughter Enola, daughter-in-law Rebecca, brothers Andy and Bob, sisters Betty and Beverly, and many nieces and nephews.

At Jim's request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada.
