With its fleet of vehicles and team of roofing, sheet metal and waterproofing specialists, Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal is prepared to take on commercial and residential jobs of all sizes.

Customers will find Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal has been a trusted industry name for more than 35 years when they look for roofing upgrades, wall cladding and exterior finishes, or sheet metal and HVAC.

A knowledgeable and experienced team of roofing, waterproofing and sheet metal experts employed by the company help homeowners make informed decisions that save them money.

“We’re very proud of the expertise and abilities of our team,” says business manager Ward Morcan, a Red Seal-certified roofer who has been with Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal since its Powell River branch opened in 2000. “We believe proper education and training is important, which is why the Red Seal certification program is essential.”

The company, which also has branch offices in Campbell River, Surrey and Cumberland, has 16 full-time local employees, including seven Red Seal roofing and waterproofing journeyman, two Red Seal sheet metal journeyman and five apprentices.

The team installs all types of roofing, including torch-on, rubber membrane systems, metal roofing and shingle roofing systems, and uses high-quality materials that have longer life expectancy.

“We’re known for high-quality roofing and sheet metal installations,” says Morcan. “Having materials installed correctly ensures they last as long as they are supposed to.”

Staff members are able to deal with any type of residential or commercial roofing or waterproofing system, from new roofs and re-roofs to maintenance and repairs.

“We are knowledgeable in all systems and constantly doing updates on new products coming out,” says Morcan. “We can tailor any style of roof to any budget.”

Metal roofing can be fabricated, cut and manufactured to any size and dimension right on the build site.

“We bring our metal-roofing panel machine and make the roofing custom to that building or house,” says Morcan.

With a large selection of roofing types available, estimators present customers with recommendations based on their specific requirements.

“Different slopes and construction types dictate what type of roof you are best suited to have,” says Morcan. “Sometimes it comes down to what a person wants to go with because they have a generous slope on their roof.”

Choices include asphalt or cedar shingles, metal, torch-on and a new option: flameless torch-on systems.

“For people concerned about potential fire because of combustible materials on their home, now there are flameless systems we can use,” says Morcan. “That’s a pretty big deal, because we don’t use a torch to install this type of roof, eliminating the chance of any fire.”

In addition to its roofing expertise, Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal specializes in heating, HVAC and mechanical work. The company is fully bonded and ready to take on any job, big or small.

“We have all the required insurance, equipment, knowledge and training, including Better Business Bureau accreditation and COR (certificate of recognition) certification from WorkSafe BC,” says Morcan. “COR means we’ve been audited by WCB and meet all of its requirements; it is rare for a company to achieve that status.”

Recent large-scale projects include a shingle roof replacement at Brooks Secondary School, exterior siding replacement, new roofing and sheet metal at Kelly Creek Community School and a torch-on roof replacement at École Côte-du-Soleil.

“We also did the whole exterior of the new Tla’amin Nation Government House and the entire roof,” says Morcan. “We took care of all its HVAC, mechanical, sprinkler and fireproofing work as well.”

Located south of town at 7564 Highway 101, Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal has almost every type of roofing material in stock. Samples, literature and colour choices are available to view and a courteous, knowledgeable staff is ready to answer all questions.

“We have hundreds of squares of roofing in stock,” says Morcan. “We don’t have to wait for other suppliers to bring us materials.”
