For more than 20 years, local craft enthusiasts and those just looking for interesting gift ideas have gathered for the annual Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary Fall Bazaar. This year, the tradition of finding high-quality craft items at affordable prices continues at Powell River Recreation Complex’s upper level on Saturday, October 21.
“This annual event keeps with the tradition expected by the public, because they know they can get quality items for less cost,” says health-care auxiliary secretary Lorraine Stokes.
Proceeds from the long-running event go toward local health-care services, including those in Powell River General Hospital, Evergreen Care Unit, Willingdon Creek Village and Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association. Programs include a Red Cross Help Office, free television for patients, candy stripers and more.
“Because the items at the bazaar are of a better quality than most, they fetch a better price,” says Stokes. “Many people look forward to the bazaar because there are good bargains on lightly used jewellery, housewares, Christmas decorations and a large display of handcrafted goods. These things are wonderful for holiday presents.”
This year’s event also features a bake sale, fish pond for children, a tea room and much more.
“The tea room is a lovely way for shoppers to take a break and have a cup of tea or coffee, along with sandwiches or sweets,” says Stokes. “We will also have a large plant table with bedding plants, bulbs and garden items, plus a raffle. Again, there will be a bake sale table offering locally made goods. Plus, there will be a raffle of handcrafted items made by our handcrafters.”
Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary relies on support and donations from the public. All revenue stays in Powell River and region to support projects fostering health care. The annual Fall Bazaar is its flagship fundraising event outside of regular operations at the Economy Shop and hospital gift shop.
