Council covers library appointments

Board members in place to replace current facility

City of Powell River Council approved recommended appointments to the Powell River Public Library board.

Councillor Rob Southcott will be the new city representative, with Councillor Jim Palm, who previously served in this capacity, appointed as the alternate. Council has also reappointed Charlotte Gill, Linda Rosen and Ron Woznow to the library board for a term ending December 31, 2016. The appointments were made at council’s Thursday, December 18 meeting.

Gill and Woznow were first appointed to the library board in the second half of 2014 to finish terms that end December 31, 2014. Rosen was appointed in 2013. All trustees were eligible for and requesting reappointment.

A report from Marie Claxton, city clerk, indicates the library board chair and the interim chief librarian support reappointment of all three candidates. “Together they provide an excellent complement of skills and experience that will benefit the library as planning continues for the new library,” Claxton stated.

The Library Act requires one member of council be appointed to the library board annually. Board members serve without remuneration.
