The first order of business at Powell River Regional District board’s first meeting of the new session Thursday, November 24, was to re-elect Electoral Area A director Patrick Brabazon as board chair.

Requests trails presentations
Despite Regional Trails Working Group wrapping up its last meeting in mid-November, the board has requested the group to invite all stakeholders to make final presentations. Powell River Parks And Wilderness Society president Eagle Walz requested the opportunity to speak to the working group to ensure that his group’s concerns around the branding of the Sunshine Coast Trail remains consistent in the regional trails plan expected to be released in December.

Signs Haywire Bay lease
Regional board approved a 10-year lease with School District 47 for expanded area within Haywire Bay Regional Park for the Powell Lake Outdoor Learning Centre. The board supported staff’s recommendation to remove the gate blocking road access to a boat ramp next to the leased land and give it to the school district to place at its driveway.

Bumps WildSafeBC support
The board increased its support for the local WildSafeBC program with funding of $5,500 for 2017. Last year it provided $3,000. Funding will come from the solid-waste management budget.
