Recommends Texada clinic upgrades
At its Thursday, April 13 meeting, Powell River Regional District’s committee of the whole recommended to the regional board that it proceed with the borrowing of $225,278 to pay for upgrades to the Texada Island Medical Clinic over a 20-year period. The upgrades are needed to address Vancouver Coastal Health’s concerns over infection control standards with the current facility.

Recommends joint grant application
Regional district committee of the whole voted to recommend to the board that it considers partnering with Tla’amin Nation and City of Powell River to apply for the provincial Active Communities grant, a similar grant to the one the city received earlier this year to promote social inclusion for senior citizens.

Supports shellfish festival
Committee of the whole voted to recommend to its board that it authorize the funding of approximately $1,200 to pay for transit service to Lund for the upcoming Shellfish Festival to be held at the end of May. Riders would be charged $2 for a one-way trip to and from Lund.
