Positive COVID-19 test results in Tla’amin Nation are now in double digits. The nation announced it has 10 lab-confirmed cases in a media release at 4:45 pm on September 10, and indicated that a number of its citizens are experiencing symptoms and awaiting test results.

More than 50 members were tested at a drive-through testing site today; results take between 24 to 48 hours, and those with positive tests will be contacted right away.

“As more COVID-19 cases are being confirmed in our community, I’m encouraging people to rely on facts, not fear,” stated hegus Clint Williams. “The best thing we can do right now to slow and stop the spread is to stay put and check on one another by phone and social media.”

Those who have tested positive are recovering at home under the supervision of health-care providers or receiving care at Powell River General Hospital, according to the release. The nation stated it may need to extend its shelter-in-place order to slow and stop the spread of the virus.

“We have a team of people ready to help those who need it, so I would encourage our nation members not to be shy to call our help line, especially elders and those with transportation needs,” stated Williams.
