Powell River Community Forest operation announced a record-setting year [“Community Forest posts record profits,” May 31] for 2016.

Powell River Community Forest operation announced a record-setting year [“Community Forest posts record profits,” May 31] for 2016.

Planet Earth also recorded a record-setting year as global temperatures continued to rise and cause even more catastrophic weather events and patterns. Coincidence?

Powell River would be wise to consider shedding its shortsightedness by exploring alternate avenues for annual revenue generation for local organizations. These could include, but are not limited to, the establishment of a philanthropy society and/or by designing a charitable consumption tax.

This town is full of highly intelligent innovators. All that is needed now is the desire to embrace the long-term vision.
