PRISMA on the Beach

Questionable weather could not keep the crowds away from the music at the annual PRISMA on the Beach event. The unofficial opening act of the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy, coupled with a City of Powell River celebration of Canada 150, took place on Wednesday, June 14, at Willingdon Beach. Music included songs from Tla’amin Singers and maestro Arthur Arnold led the PRISMA orchestra in the Hockey Night in Canada theme song. Vancouver comedian Charlie Demers’ exuberance kept the event lively and spirited with a few jokes at the expense of BC Ferries CEO Mark Collins. Three Tla’amin Nation citizens, Clint Williams, Elsie Paul and Roy Francis, were bestowed the honour of Freedom of the City by mayor Dave Formosa. David Brindle photos
