Powell River 8-Ball Pool League, formerly known as Sunshine Coast Pool League, recently wrapped up a busy 2010-2011 season which had 16 teams playing weekly at six venues around the city.

First in league standings are Clay Gloslee, Patrick Savoie, Terry Stokes, Clint Bevans, Jim Askguaard, Bob Findley, Dean Jones, Lorne Lenaour, Martin McMann and Bill Ready of the Cranberry Crushers; second are Roger Randall, Paul Marier, Chris Moore, Norm Browett and Kevin Heinrichsohn of the PT Cruisers; third are Brian Mansell, Derek Shwartz, Rick Morrissay, Randy Davie, Wayne Burge and Cory Pratt of the Rodmay Crazy 8’s.

This year’s season came to a close with playoffs and a banquet. Winners of the final tournament were the Cranberry Crushers, followed by Duane Howell, Greg Goodburn, Paul Tambeau, Dylan Wilson, Trevor Connaughan, Russ Fisher, John Gouldreaut and Denny Mason of the Cranberry Chronics. Third place was awarded to Dennis Paulin, Herb Daum, Sherry Charlton, Derek McApine, Mark Alexcee, Jim Askguaard, Rob Beadnell, Cliff Cathcart, Cindy Cole, Cathy Mowat, Devon Ruedig and Roger Syriste of the Westview Mariners. Both the Chronics and the Mariners were surprise playoff winners given their regular season rank of seventh and eleventh respectively.

At the banquet, an award was presented to Clay Gloslee for being the top player, among other achievements. An award for best female player was presented to Sherry Charlton.

The 2011-2012 season begins on Wednesday, September 7. With 19 teams currently signed up, the league is hoping for one more team to join. Twenty is the maximum number of teams based on the number of pool tables available. Each team has four regular players and may have several spares.

Matches are played every Wednesday evening at Carlson Community Club, Cranberry Motor Inn, McKinney’s Pub, Red Lion Pub, TC’s Pub and Westview Hotel. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164 has also been added as a host venue this year.

People interested in joining the league in a team or as a spare can contact league president Gloslee at 604.487.1752 and are asked do so as soon as possible so the appropriate schedule can be published.

This season’s schedule and list of team and individual player standings will be posted on the league’s website, http://powellriver.pplms.ca. A Facebook page has been set up as well, available using the keywords Powell River 8-Ball Pool League.
