Just over 6,100 ballot envelopes received so far in Powell River-Sunshine Coast

Elections BC says 6,107 certification envelopes had been received by the Powell River-Sunshine Coast electoral office as of Oct. 30.

There were 8,338 mail-in ballots requested by Powell River-Sunshine Coast voters. The certification envelopes include mail-in ballots, absentee ballots and votes cast at the district electoral office.

Of the riding’s 41,282 registered voters, 16,071 votes were cast in advance voting and on election day, representing a turnout of roughly 39 per cent.

With the certification envelopes added, the projected turnout for Powell River-Sunshine Coast is now around 53 per cent, which is in line with the 52.4 per cent estimate of provincewide turnout announced Oct. 26.

The riding had a voter turnout of 69.6 per cent in the 2017 election.

A minimum of 13 days has been set aside for Elections BC to prepare for the final count, which it hopes to begin on Nov. 6.

The number of certification envelopes received is expected to increase between now and the start of the final count.
