Since opening its doors in 2012, Townsite Brewing has become a landmark of Powell River’s historic Townsite district, and a major draw for locals and tourists alike.
This week the craft brewery won BC Ale Trail’s inaugural Best Brewery Experience award, following an online nomination process throughout October and November. In a province with 165 craft breweries and another 20-plus slated to open in 2019, receiving this kind of recognition is significant, said Townsite managing partner and director of sales Michelle Zutz.
“We are up against some serious contenders of groovy spots to enjoy BC brews,” she said. “It is pretty exciting considering we are small and situated so remotely from other areas.”
The BC Ale Trail is a BC Craft Brewers Guild initiative created to connect British Columbia’s world-class brewing scene with tourism organizations across the province.
“Townsite Brewing is one of my favourite places to visit on the BC Ale Trail,” said the group’s director of content Joe Wiebe. “I love the tasting room, and really admire the high standard of quality and creativity they put into all their beers. The brewery itself is well worth the trip to Powell River, which is such an interesting and welcoming community.”
Zutz said this award reflects on the community of Powell River and she encourages any resident who has not visited the local brewery yet to stop by and check it out.
“We are incredibly proud of our town,” she added. “We work hard to create a space where everyone feels welcome and comfortable.”
