Part of a fourth-generation Powell River family, Relay Rental and Sales owners Dylan and Ingrid Parsons have strong ties in the community, both personally and professionally.

The family has run Parsons Properties and Workforce Rentals for the past four years and took over Relay in October 2017. Providing quality service to customers is at the forefront of a fresh new outlook for the now locally owned and family operated business.

“Our new focus is to offer excellent customer service and provide reliable equipment while helping homeowners with any projects they have,” says Dylan, one of three family members working at the store.

Servicing all areas from Saltery Bay to Lund, including Texada Island and Savary Island, the business offers commercial and residential rental equipment and is the local dealer for Echo and Shindaiwa.

“We’re also the authorized and exclusive dealer of Cloverdale Paint for this area,” says Ingrid. “Cloverdale is also a family-owned company and has been BC-owned and operated since 1933. Their brands are homegrown; everything is made at their plant in Surrey.”

A full line of in-store Cloverdale products include hospital-grade, low VOC and environmentally friendly paint, as well as all sundries and accessories required to complete any painting project.

“We do colour matching as well,” says Ingrid. “If a customer has a different brand of paint, they can bring it in and we can match and make the same colour in a Cloverdale brand.”

Dealing with a BC company ensures swift and efficient communication for distribution purposes.

“Anytime an item is not in stock, it does not take long to bring it in,” says Dylan. “Cloverdale treats their people well, and they treat us well.”

Dylan says residential renovations, construction and equipment rentals through Parsons Properties and Workforce Rentals, and two years as the local asbestos-abatement contractor, have combined to enhance his knowledge of equipment and tool requirements for any and all jobs.

“We’ve worked for lots of places around town and completed many jobs, big and small,” says Dylan, “so this business was a good fit for us to move into.”

All staff members have experience operating rental items and can help customers choose the proper tool to ensure a job or task is completed safely, efficiently, and effectively. The team can help solve any problem, big or small.

While the main focus of the business is on paint products and equipment rentals, some items are available for sale upon request.

“We don't sell our rental equipment but if somebody wants a new pressure washer, for example, we will order in a new one for them,” says Dylan.

Repair and maintenance services for most types of power equipment are also available, regardless of the make or model.

“We have a full-time, small-engine mechanic on duty who repairs anything from lawn mowers and home power tools to generators, compressors and chainsaws,” says Dylan.

Customers who have been visiting the store since it opened seven years ago can expect the same products to be available. Anything not in stock, paints or otherwise, can be sourced and ordered as needed or requested.

“If we don't have something we will bring it in for customers,” says Ingrid. “That has always been our policy.”

Relay Rental and Sales is open from 7:30 am-5pm Monday to Friday and 8 am-4 pm on Saturdays at 101-7105 Duncan Street. The new proprietors of the owner-operated business will be on hand daily to answer customer questions and provide tips to make all projects run smoothly.

Delivery and pickup service is available for all rental equipment and machinery.
