Family-run business gears up for summer season in Powell River

Bounce Party Rentals specializes in renting temporary inflatable structures

Bounce Party Rentals owners Mara Decker and Brad Osmond, and their children Avah and Blake, test out one of the bouncy units the business has available for rent in the Powell River area from Lund to Saltery Bay.

With summer just beginning, active mom of two Mara Decker is getting ready for what she hopes will be a busy few months ahead for Bounce Party Rentals. The business rents out temporary inflatable structures for a variety of functions, festivals, events, and for recreational purposes, such as families planning a fun day in their backyards.

When Mara and her partner Bradley Osmond welcomed their first child Avah seven years ago, she started planning for a way to work from home.

“I began looking for a business idea that allowed me to stay at home with our daughter, and I had a friend in Vancouver who had a similar business,” says Mara.

Mara also noticed people commenting online, wishing someone in Powell River could provide this type of entertainment for their children’s parties.

So the decision was made, and in April of 2013 the family purchased two commercial-quality bouncers. Bounce Party Rentals was up and running a month later.

Since then they’ve added four more bouncers for a total of six to choose from. The business specializes in renting bouncy castles and combo units with slides, basketball hoops and a bouncy area.

“The bouncers provide fun for the whole family and aren’t just geared towards kids,” explains Mara.

Three of the bouncer units have water features, including one castle with a 17-foot slide. The double slide is the longest bouncer at 30 feet; it includes two slides, a bouncy house and a basketball net.

“Being the only rental place of this kind in the area, we cater to all of Powell River from Saltery Bay to Lund,” says Mara.

Over the last seven years Bounce Party Rentals has been popping up at weddings, birthday parties, bachelor parties and community events. With most of the future outdoor events being cancelled in town, people won’t be able to visit Mara in the park on Canada Day, however, they can host a private event in their own backyard.

Set up and takedown is included with every rental and while the cleanliness of each bouncer has always been a priority, Mara says they are being extra diligent for the upcoming season.

“All equipment is well cared for to assure everyone has a clean, safe and supreme-quality unit,” explains Mara.

From the start, Mara says Bounce Party Rentals has focused on being professional, reliable and respectful, and fun, of course.
