Frankie’s Place salon offers wide range of pampering

Improving health and wellness at centre of Townsite day spa in Powell River
Frankie Lutz

With a comprehensive range of holistic health services, Frankie Lutz, owner of Powell River’s newest day spa, says her salon offers something for everyone looking for pampering.

Frankie’s Place is a full esthetic day spa that provides its clients with several different kinds of massage options, reflexology, manicures, pedicures, gel nails, waxing, facials, lashes, detoxification body wraps, and for extra fun, angel and fairy card readings.

“Life is always so busy for everyone. If we want to be healthy, we need to take care of ourselves,” says Lutz. “From a young age to our elders, man or woman, we’re all the same. Everyone needs some care.”

Located in Historic Townsite inside the Old Courthouse Inn (6243 Walnut Street), Frankie’s Place had its soft opening in April. Frankie says she saw the development of Powell River’s tourist-friendly and trendy neighbourhood as a good location to open a day spa specializing in personalized care treatments that improve a person’s overall health, beauty and relaxation.

She says she has settled into her space at the inn and is pleased with the welcome she has received from the hotel.

"The whole staff has been truly amazing and so supportive," she says.

Having a day spa inside of a hotel is a prime location because of the growth in interest in health and wellness vacations around the world. With a growing number of resort spas in Vancouver Island communities such as Parksville and Royston, it is nice to see Powell River offering more options, she says.

“We didn’t really have a place where people could stay in a unique heritage hotel in Townsite and be able to get services,” she says.

With Townsite Market opening next door in the near future, Lutz says she thinks the area will provide an even greater attraction for out-of-town visitors. The day spa also provides for a quiet day of relaxation for Powell River residents looking for a respite from their busy work and family lives.

"This day spa is about head-to-toe service. People come and get their feet massaged while they get their nails done," says Lutz.

Because the salon has only one nail station and one massage table, Frankie’s Place clients are treated to peace and privacy for their one-on-one booked sessions.

The day spa offers several types of massages, including relaxation/aromatherapy, Indian head and neck, hot stone and infrared sauna.

Frankie’s body wraps are hot linens that have been soaked in calming herbs. They moisturize the skin while detoxing at the same time, she says. The herbs also eliminate water retention and help with the loss of inches, she adds.

With Canadians getting older there has been a greater focus on taking care of oneself and that means taking the time for massages and other services that will help improve quality of life, says Lutz. This is not just for women who want to look younger and feel better, she adds.

“Frankie’s Place is not only for women,” she says. “Healing is for absolutely everybody.”

Pedicures are not only beneficial for women who want to have pretty toes, but also for men to improve health, she adds.

"We walk on our feet all the time, so the idea is to take care of yourself,” says Lutz. “I feel very blessed if I get to be a part of that for my clients.”

Lutz offers her clients the option to experience reflexology, an alternative medicine that involves massaging pressure points on the feet, a practice that has been used to reduce musculoskeletal pain, insomnia, anxiety, stress and hormonal and digestive problems.

She has been a holistic beauty therapist and gel nail artist since 1999. From 2003 to 2013 she owned Art of Healing Day Spa and gift shop in St. Louis, Saskatchewan.

Lutz has also tutored and taught hands-on training in massage therapy, reflexology, gel nails and other spa therapies for CanAm College for more than eight years.

"I got into this business to help people heal," she says. "I absolutely love it here and my clients seem to as well.”
