After two years in business, locally owned and operated Powell River Heating & Air Conditioning continues to build on its success, adding new employees and recently purchasing a permanent location for its operations.

“Thank you, Powell River, for another great year. Thank you to all of our customers for sharing with others the experience they had with us,” says co-owner Peter Bordignon. “It’s that simple word of mouth that has been our biggest support. We now have seven on staff, with six company vehicles on the road to try and help meet the demands of this town.”

Powell River Heating & Air Conditioning formed in December 2016 when Peter, (a ticketed gas fitter and HVAC technician) and Gary Slootweg, (a ticketed gas fitter) teamed up to offer area residents a new option they could trust.

“We are here to help with all their heating and cooling needs, from residential systems, to new builds, to commercial buildings,” says Gary. “We are Powell River's Carrier dealers and sell other brands such as Napoleon Fireplaces, Rinnai on-demand water heaters, Vanee HRVs, and many other products. We service and maintain all the equipment we sell, along with most other makes and models.”

The company is fully certified, bonded and insured, and also offers 24-hour emergency service.

For anyone thinking about installing new equipment, Peter says his advice is to “call us well in advance and get a free quote as we are often booking several months ahead.”

Joining Peter and Gary is a group of professional tradesmen. Dan Holmes, a TECA-certified ticketed sheet metal mechanic, as well as a gas fitter, designs and builds all the company's ductwork in-house to TECA Industry Guidelines. Apprentice Hank Upton is currently working toward his HVAC and gas fitting tickets, having only two sessions of school left until certification. Newly welcomed Red Seal gas fitter Mike Ure is also on board, with over 23 years of experience installing and servicing equipment.

"We can’t offer great service without solid office support,” says Peter.

Emily Knight is the company’s office manager, completing all office duties, as well as helping out on the job sites. From the start, Megan Thistle has taken care of the company’s books.

PR Heating & Air Conditioning started in Peter’s basement. Expanding quickly to meet growing demand in the community, Peter and Gary soon found they needed to rent more and more storage space to keep up. It just made sense for the company to look at branching out to a permanent location and planting some roots, says Gary.

Peter found that space at 6818B Alberni Street this summer and purchased the building.

“We will have an office customers can soon come and visit,” says Peter. “We have a bit more renos to do, but we should be opening our doors early 2019."
