With spring cleaning season in full effect, now is the time to shift focus and take care of that stubborn layer of green and black moss and grime that has built up on the sides of houses, roofs, driveways, sidewalks, and other concrete surfaces over the winter.

Locally owned and operated Pelican Pressure Washing & Paint assists home and business owners with the toughest exterior jobs, says Pelican owner Dan Russell.

Over the past five years Dan and his partner Stéphanie Bleau have worked hard to build the company and its reputation for professional work, attention to detail, and reasonable rates, he says.

Dan has 20 years of experience in pressure washing and got his start fresh out of high school with Pelican Cleaning. Dan took over the company in 2015 after the previous owner John Goudreault retired.

“We built this company from nothing, a car and a used pressure washing pump from the previous owner,” says Dan. “We've had to fight tooth and nail.”

Five years later, Pelican continues to assist its residential and commercial customers to maintain and beautify their properties. Pelican has great references and guarantees their work to satisfaction.

Dan says he is grateful to the Powell River community and surrounding areas for the continued support.

"I want to give a big thanks to the community for making my dream of being a business owner possible. Without the support from the local community, businesses like mine wouldn't be able to make it."

Spring is the busiest season for pressure washing, says Dan.

“A lot of people are looking for help cleaning up their homes, and pressure washing with hot and/or cold water can be effective for cleaning driveways and sidewalks, sun decks, balconies and stairs,” he says.

Pressure washing is also an effective means to clean roofs, gutters, awnings and downspouts and keep them clear of debris.

“We do get a lot of calls during the spring when people find their gutters overflowing,” he adds.

Keeping roofs and gutters clean can add to the life of a roof as debris such as leaves tend to trap moisture and encourage algae and moss growth, says Dan.

“With the right application of pressure and proper techniques, removing moss and other build up can increase the life of a roof.”

Despite what some people may think, cedar shake and asphalt shingle roofs can be safely pressure washed.

Pelican has a variety of pressure washing tools, and environmentally-friendly cleaning products to match any job, he adds.

Pelican is the only certified commercial kitchen exhaust cleaner on the Sunshine Coast and services 38 clients, says Dan.

He is certified to clean commercial kitchen exhaust systems through Texas-based Phil Ackland Training, one of the best-known kitchen hood cleaning schools in the United States.

A lot of people know Pelican for its pressure washing, but don’t always think of the company when they have painting that needs to be done, says Dan.

“Even though it's in the name, a lot of people still think Pelican Cleaning, the pressure washing company, but we do painting as well.”

During the summer when the weather is dry, the company takes on exterior painting jobs and interior painting jobs in the fall and winter.

“Steph and I are both experienced painters,” adds Dan. “Steph really excels in home décor and interior design.”

Pelican also will take on furniture refinishing jobs for all types of wood furniture, structural steel and iron.

Dan provides free quotes and says that the process is as simple as picking up the phone and arranging a time for him and his team to come by and take a look.

“Give us a call to see how we can help,” he says. “We provide quality and experience you can trust.”

Pelican services clients located up and down the Sunshine Coast, from Port Mellon and Langdale to Lund and Texada Island.
