Taws and Impact Signs offer in-house design and products in Powell River

Businesses seeking to enhance options for customers, individuals looking to personalize homes and organizations seeking unique promotional items can find all that and more under one roof at Impact Signs on Willingdon Avenue, and within the embroidery department at Taws upstairs on Marine.

“We do design and we manufacture signs, everything from road signs and large business signs to T-shirts,” says Impact Signs manager Mike Chisholm. “We also do maintenance of signage.”

In addition to indoor and outdoor signs, vehicle decals and wraps, banners and posters, business cards and canvas printing, anything advertising related can be designed and created right on the premises.

“Along with being able to put reflective material on, and personalize, shirts and safety equipment downstairs, we can do the same thing upstairs with embroidery,” says Mike. “The clothing line actually ties in with our embroidery department through Taws. It is the same design; you put it on a sign down here or on embroidery upstairs.”

Impact Signs has been serving the Powell River community for 30-plus years and has two designers and two sign-makers on staff, and two of the employees can fully wrap vehicles. Personalizing the interior or exterior of homes or businesses is also possible.

“We can totally change the colour of your car, then change it again two years later, or put camouflage on a white car,” says Mike. “We can also make your chimney look like part of your house. We can wrap brick or anything; it is pretty amazing.”

Custom wallpaper has also become an option for individuals or business owners wanting to express their own personality or attributes.

“Some people have a room dedicated to their family and rather than hanging pictures up everywhere, we can design a wall and have the photos they bring in added right into the vinyl,” explains Mike. “We can scan everything, group them all together and add it to the wallpaper.”

Mike says the signage company created a logo for Lund Hotel that spanned 60 feet, and went around corners.

“We are not limited to a size; we piece it together,” he adds. “Wallpaper is different than signage; it is a different texture.”

Customers seeking in-house-made custom embroidery and quality apparel for businesses or sports teams, or uniquely branded promotional products, can visit the showroom upstairs next to Taws. The promotional division of the company also provides silk screening, canvas photos and digital printing services, as well as logo customization on a number of items, including wallets, magnets, knives and flashlights.

“We do all kinds of swag: mugs, pens, calendars, pretty much anything you can think of for branding,” says sales manager Lisanne English. “We help customers determine who their target audience is, what message they want to get across and find what will fit best with their budget.”

Businesses can also benefit from employee incentive programs, as well as safety and wellness initiatives developed to suit their needs, says Lisanne.

“We work with companies, set up a program for them and help them implement it,” she adds. “When employees reach a set goal in a program, for example, such as a certain number of accident-free hours, they can choose one of the items their employer has branded through us to recognize their achievement.”

Lisanne says staff also work closely with non-profit groups and help them with ideas on how to raise funds.

“A lot of times they come and don't know exactly what they want,” she adds. “We have many options to go over with them, and also make sure they receive good value in the most economical way.”
