Building on its reputation for being Powell River's one-stop shop for the best in unique home décor, sofas and mattresses, Westcoast Furniture has expanded to offer the largest selection of appliances in Powell River.

In August, the family owned local business added a 4,000-foot appliance gallery to its showroom, located at 122- 4801 Joyce Avenue in Crossroads Village Shopping Centre.

“We have been asked for years to sell appliances, so when the former Sears spot became available, we decided to jump in,” says owner Kevin Cuthbertson. “We wanted to provide a nice shopping experience with good selection, so we built accordingly and are really happy with how it turned out. The response from our customers has been unbelievable.”

The store has 100 pieces on the showroom floor and the warehouse is kept well stocked.

“If your washer or fridge goes, chances are good you can buy one and take it home the same day,” adds Kevin. “If we need to order, our average wait time is eight days.

To avoid any backorders, most contractors and customers doing new builds or renovations will order in advance and Westcoast  will store their appliances until needed.

“Customers find comfort knowing if they buy from us and they have a problem we will look after them,” says Kevin. “We don’t want to be a repair shop, so we will only service what we sell.”

West Coast is pleased to announce it is the only store that has its own full-time repair person on staff. David Cooper has vast knowledge of appliances and is in the final stages of receiving Whirlpool certification, says Kevin.

“Customer service is what has built this business and we thank the people of Powell River and Texada for making Westcoast what it is,” he adds. “It is the continuous support we receive that has allowed us to continually expand and become the largest furniture store on the Sunshine Coast.”

Appliances aside, the store continues to bring in the best in sofas, mattresses and home décor.

“We spend a lot of resources shopping for the newest styles and trends in furniture,” explains Kevin. “Our customers enjoy coming in to browse the constantly changing inventory.”

Westcoast sells sofas from Stylus, Palliser, Decor-Rest and Van Gogh, with more than 600 fabrics and 100 leathers to choose from for those customers who want to custom order. The showroom floor is always well-stocked for customers who want to take home a set off the floor.

“I’m very fortunate to have such a great staff; Jamie Hardie has 10 years experience in furniture and appliances and she loves helping people make their house a home,” says Kevin. “For the past five years, Travis Cuthbertson has been carrying on the family business as store manager, handling the day-to-day operations.”

Westcoast Furniture sells mainly Canadian-made products and is known for selling quality pieces that will stand the test of time.

“Our pricing is very competitive and we price match so customers can be sure they are getting the best value when they shop with us,” says Kevin.

Westcoast is also an exclusive dealer for Ironman recovery mattresses, widely regarded as one of the best mattresses on the market with one of the best warranties.
