Roses and Raspberries

Powell River residents respond with comments regarding good and bad deeds
Roses and raspberries Powell River

A huge cooler of rotten raspberries to the culprit who helped themselves to a dozen eggs and a couple of zucchinis without paying. We don’t ask for much, we just appreciate a contribution so people in our community can enjoy what we have to offer.

A huge bunch of roses to all the people who helped when my car’s lower radiator hose split open as I was driving to Saltery Bay. It was a team effort, with the mechanic making a special visit, the auto-parts person with the know-how, the people at the terminal who helped move my vehicle and the guy in the truck who crawled under my car to tell me what hose had split. All these people are super wonderful and I am very grateful you were all there to help.

A raspberry nomination to all the people who disrespect our democracy by complaining about our locally elected representatives and don’t even take the time to mark their ballot on Election Day.

Creeks full of rotten raspberries to the household that was rudely inconsiderate with noise levels. Shame on you for your selfishness and ignorance.

Ashtrays full of burnt raspberries for people who are careless and lack concern for Mother Earth. I am embarrassed and ashamed to see our beautiful city so covered with cigarette butts, litter and gum. Those who are unaware should get out of their cars and walk around as pedestrians and observe why our city takes on such a shabby appearance. Concerned residents should not be the ones left to clean up after those who disregard our laws.

Roses to everyone in Powell River who helped to get our dog home to his family. An animal tore down a portion of our back fence, which was hidden from view, and our dog escaped from the backyard. We recently moved to Powell River and we think he panicked and could not find his way home. He covered a lot of ground when he was on the loose. We cannot express our gratitude enough for all of the help we received to find him. We are so glad to live here.

Wheelbarrows full of roses to neighbours who weed my garden, clean out flower beds, pick up and pick tree fruit, weed whack all over, supply me with salmon and tomatoes, and take me shopping. You are super friends!

Roses to you and thanks again for purchasing the fish pond toys for the bazaar. Bless you!

Roses to the very honest person who found my purse and brought it into the store I had just left. It was pouring rain. I bought my groceries and put them in the trunk of the car. I drove away and thought “where’s my purse?” I drove back to the shopping cart and it was empty; immediately I felt sick. To my surprise when I went into the store someone had turned it in.

A beautiful and bright bouquet of roses for cemetery caretakers. A warm thank-you to the manager and the entire work crew for your kindness, hard work and for maintaining the cemetery, which is now so nice to visit and see a neat landscape. You've done a beautiful job.

Raspberries to the people who scoop their dog's poop into bags and then throw the bag in the bush or wooded areas.

Despite the advertising, bags are not biodegradable at least not in this century. Thank you for picking up after your furry friend, but please take the bag home with you.

To all drivers, please do not receive a raspberry for using the recently installed bike lanes as your personal driving space. They are intended for bike riders and pedestrians, not for drivers to use to get around a corner more quickly. I’ve seen many drivers cut corners using the bike lanes and it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Please keep that in mind next time you find yourself using a bike lane as your personal driving space, especially going up the Wildwood hill.

Rotten raspberries to the thoughtless and disrespectful person on the sea walk. A bench along the sea walk was bought in memory of our daughter and on her 50th birthday we took a dozen roses in a blue ceramic bowl and placed it by the bench. When we came back only a few days later the bowl had been stolen.

Big bunches of roses to each and every one of you who helped me when my truck ran out of diesel. I am not sure where you all came from, but like angels you appeared and helped push me up to the gas station.
