Summer feast makes return

Vendors prepare for an evening at the market

Paradise Valley Exhibition Grounds will be busy this long weekend with not only the regular Open Air Farmers’ Market on Saturday and Sunday, but also the return of A Midsummer Night’s Feast on BC Day, Monday, August 1.

Between 4:30 pm and dusk (at around 8 or 8:30 pm), vendors will display crafts and food products. Several local folk musicians will take to the stage over the course of the evening.

In addition to the usual weekend vendors, a greater number of food booths will be set up for Monday’s event. Market manager Jesse Black said a particular focus would be placed on products grown and produced in Powell River. “All of the food that’s available will be local or at least as much of it as possible,” he said.

Last year’s feast drew a successful turnout of vendors and market-goers, one Black hopes to build on this year. He said the evening gives the market a unique feel. “It’s a little bit different than your normal market day. It’s kind of a nice atmosphere and a different sort of thing for the vendors to come and participate in.”
