B.C.’s provincial health officer is being recognized for her work with an honorary degree from Royal Roads University.

Dr. Bonnie Henry will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree during Royal Roads’ fall convocation ceremonies, to be held online on Nov. 6.

Henry, who specializes in public health and preventive medicine, was appointed to her position in February 2018 after serving as deputy provincial health officer. This year, she has become the face of B.C.’s COVID-19 response, known for urging the province’s residents to “be kind, be calm and be safe.”

This isn’t her first pandemic. Henry has been called an experienced virus hunter with experience battling SARS, Ebola, H1N1 and polio during her career.
