Sirens at Seven and the community cheers for health care workers is uniting Deltans as the fight to combat the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Delta police said on its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon that supporting our vital health care workers with a display of lights and sirens at Delta Hospital these past few days has lifted our officers and employees’ spirits, and we hope it’s provided a boost to our community as well.

“We’ve been asked whether this is going to be a regular event, and also whether the public can come by and show their support. That’s tough to answer with anything more than, ‘it depends’,” said DPD. “Police, fire and ambulance personnel are all first responders, and may at any time need to respond to emergencies happening anywhere in the city. Delta Police will participate in Sirens at Seven if time and duties permit.

“Additionally, we want to discourage the gathering of any crowds – after all the point of what we’re all trying to achieve is physical distancing so we can knock this virus down.

We hope the community continues to show its collective support to health care workers during this struggle against COVID-19. That may be applauding from your front door, banging pots and pans from your balcony, or it might mean sirens at other locations where we have health care workers. It depends…

“However we show our support, let’s make sure we continue to do it safely, from a distance of at least six feet apart! Let's make some noise at 7 p.m., Delta!”
