Stephen Vogler tour includes Powell River stop

Veteran performer incorporates variety of musical genres in one-man show
Stephen Vogler Sunshine Coast Mini-Tour 2019

Whistler-based musician Stephen Vogler begins his Sunshine Coast Mini-Tour 2019 this July, including stops in Refuge Cove on Wednesday, July 3, Lund on Thursday, July 4, and Powell River on Friday, July 5.

“I'm pretty happy to be coming up there and bringing my music and my new recording,” says Vogler. “I'm starting up in Desolation Sound at Refuge Cove Marina; it is a boat-access-only show. I've never been up to Desolation Sound, so I'm kind of stoked about that.”

Vogler plays more than 100 shows per year in the Whistler, Sea-to-Sky and Vancouver area. He has been performing and recording ska and reggae music for many years, but branches out on his new EP, Some Assembly Required, by exploring different rhythms, roots rock, gypsy jazz and latin ska.

“It’s a bit more variety, all fairly lively, dance-able kind of music,” he adds. “I like keeping it lively.”

In addition to recording with other bands previously, Vogler played in a ska band called The Hounds of Buskerville for several years, and still does on occasion, but even though Some Assembly Required was recorded with a full band, the tour is a one-man show.

“I've got the kick-drum going,” says Vogler, who has been playing music professionally since the 1990s. “I'm really looking forward to it.”

Whether playing as a one-man band with guitar, mandolin, vocals and foot percussion, or as a duo, trio or full band, Vogler always gets the dance floor shaking.

“People should expect to have fun and get up on the dance floor,” he says.

The July 3 show at Refuge Cove begins at 7 pm, followed by a free performance at Lund Hotel Pub the following evening, also at 7 pm.

Before heading to Gibsons for two more Sunshine Coast shows on July 6 and 7, Vogler joins Vancouver Island-based band Quadra Sound at McKinney’s Pub in Townsite on Friday, July 5, for an evening that delves into many musical genres.

“Quadra Sound wanted to share the night,” says Vogler. “They are kind of a rock band and my stuff: ska, reggae, roots rock, is a different style. There should be enough crossover to make for an eclectic evening of music.”

Vogler will kick off the show at 8 pm, followed by Quadra Sound. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the door, and online at showpass.com/o/quadra-sound.

Some Assembly Required is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, CD Baby and other downloading and streaming services, from the artist at live shows and at stephenvogler.com.
