These charming ornaments also make great host or hostess gifts and stocking stuffers!

Materials

  • pom pom maker         (available at most craft stores)
  • white yarn
  • scissors
  • various colour felt pieces (available at most craft stores)
  • glue and a glue gun
  • wood beads
  • miniature white pom poms
  • small embroidery needle
  • white embroidery thread
  • baker’s coloured twine
  • paper for template

Start by drawing out your template for the gnome’s hat. Draw a two-inch half semi-circle with a pointed end to make a cone-shaped hat. You may be able to find these templates online for free. Cut the template out and set aside.

Using your hat template, carefully draw out the pattern on your various pieces of coloured felt.

Cut them out with your scissors.

Embroider snowflake patterns onto the front of each individual hat. You can embroider three small vertical snowflakes or one large one. There are other patterns you may want to try as well.

Make your pom pom with your maker following the directions on the package. These are very easy and only take a few minutes to make.

Glue the edges of your gnome’s hat to make the cone shape and set it aside. Be sure to leave a small space open at the top of the hat.

Thread a 10-inch piece of baker’s coloured twine through your embroidery needle. Insert the needle through the top of the hat leaving one end free.

Thread a white miniature pom pom onto the free end and rethread the second end of the twine through the top of the hat again.

You should have the miniature pom pom at the top of the hat and two loose ends of twine on the inside of the hat.

Tie off the two loose ends with a large knot and pull the loop through the top of the hat.

Glue the inside edges of the gnome hat to the top of the pom pom. All that is left to do is glue a small wooden bead to the front of the pom pom. Slightly lift the front edge of the hat and glue the wooden bead with your glue gun.

Hang these ornaments on your tree or wrap them up and give them as gifts at your next holiday dinner party.
