A giant, 24-feet by 115-feet mural depicting the fishing industry is taking shape in Steveston Village.

Being painted by renowned artist Jeff King and commissioned by the Steveston Harbour Authority (SHA), the six, massive sockeye salmon are taking over one of the end walls at the CanTrawl building on Chatham Street.

SHA board member Fred Scott said the organization is planning on doing one giant mural every year on its buildings.

“This is just the start of a series,” Scott told the Richmond News.

“We’ve been talking about beautifying our buildings for some time and started last week.

“It will take about 10 days to complete. It’s going to be amazing, very colourful.”

Scott said the project, which doesn’t yet have a name, will also be recorded on a time-lapsed video, which the News will share at Richmond-News.com.
