It was recently unveiled that Ryan Tattle is getting closer to reaching one of his season's goals in raising $50,000 for cancer research.

Now, his team will provide an assist on his way to the finish line and potentially beyond.

Today (Feb. 9), the Coquitlam Express announced its further supporting its captain's initiative by dedicating its Saturday, Feb. 26 game to Score for Cancer.

It's set to feature festivities for fans, including an auction for special jerseys the players will wear during the contest, with all proceeds earmarked for the fundraising campaign.

Additionally, Lafarge Lake and Pinetree Way are set to be lit up yellow as a sign of support by the City of Coquitlam.

"This event is extremely exciting, not only to raise as much money as possible for the Score For Cancer campaign, but also to bring people together and have a great night for a great cause," said Tattle in a team release.

"I owe a big thank you to the Coquitlam Express, the Canadian Cancer Society, and many more individuals for making this event possible."

The Port Moody product currently has a total of $45,296 in the pot earmarked for the Canadian Cancer Society, who is also partnering with the BCHL franchise for the themed night.

The 20-year-old's mother had a brush with the disease, as well as former teammate Greg Lapointe in his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which motivated him to start Score for Cancer and encourage others to donate what they could.

Express general manager Tali Campbell says Tattle has been a prime example of how to be better person.

"As a young GM in this league, it's my hope and goal that all the younger players look at Ryan and say, 'I want to be like him. I want to strive to always get better on the ice and better off the ice.'"

Tattle has scored 35 points in 33 games this year, including 11 goals and 24 assists — the highest among his Coquitlam teammates.

He has 19 regular-season tilts left before he venturing off to the NCAA in the fall with University of Connecticut.

On Feb. 26, the Express are set to wear and auction off specially-made jerseys for the occasion along with a chuck-a-puck and 50/50 draw starting at $500.

Coquitlam will take on the Victoria Grizzlies that evening, 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
