Coquitlam Mounties are under investigation after a man says he was injured during an arrest last month.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) says it's looking to determine if police actions led to the claim, which was reported one week after the incident took place.

Around 4:10 a.m. on Dec. 27, RCMP were called to a "request for assistance" for an allegedly intoxicated man at a construction site located in the 600-block of Foster Avenue — near Cottonwood Park and Vancouver Golf Club.

Officers attended the area and arrested the individual, who was later released after the ordeal.

A statement this afternoon (Jan. 5) also explains he reportedly refused medical treatment when Emergency Health Services attended the scene.

The IIO says police were made aware on Monday (Jan. 3) that the man suffered an injury during the arrest.

Anyone with more information about the investigation is encouraged to contact IIO's witness line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or go online to the B.C. police watchdog's website.
