Chloe Lo said the $1,000 scholarship has not only helped her to pay tuition but also enabled her to pursue her dream.

A Richmond mom is the only recipient in Canada to win the most recent round of the Working Parent Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship offered by Job-Applications.ca, an online employment resource website, acknowledges the efforts of an exceptional Canadian student who successfully strikes a balance between parenthood, a career and higher education.

Chloe Lo, who is raising her four-and-a-half-year-old son, is in her final year at Langara College pursuing a degree in marketing management.

As a 26-year-old mother, Lo said parenting is rewarding but not easy, especially since she has had to take care of her son after his preschool was shut down - due to the pandemic - while still studying.

“Being a working parent and a student studying for a marketing diploma, I am an expert in pulling all-nighters,” said Lo.

“I am very honoured to be the recipient of this scholarship. Not only does it help to pay my tuition, but it is also a motivation for me to keep pursuing my dream of providing my child with a better life.”

Lo submitted an essay about her experience and a few tips on how she balances life, work and school. And she hopes this essay will encourage other student-parents out there to get through this bittersweet part of their lives.

New applicants can apply for the 2021 scholarship online until Dec. 3, 2021. For more information, go to https://ca.job-applications.com/scholarships/
