VIDEO: Investigation ongoing after fire leaves $100K price tag for Coquitlam home

No injuries were reported from the Therrien Street incident, but it's believed through unconfirmed reports that a dog died in the blaze.

All residents made it out safely after a fire raged through a Coquitlam home yesterday (June 10).

Fire Chief Jim Ogloff tells Tri-City News the damage to the residence on 200-block Therrien Street near Brunette Avenue is extensive, leaving an estimated cost upwards of $100,000.

"We do not have a cause yet; we're waiting for [crews] to wrap up their investigation," he said.

"The damage is extensive and the structural integrity of the building is compromised, so they may not wrap it up today."

Around 5 p.m. Thursday, more than 20 firefighters responded to a Maillardville-area blaze and appeared to be fully engulfed when they first arrived.

Crews performed a defensive attack from the outside in order to protect adjacent homes and their surrounding environment, eventually extinguishing the flames.

While there were no reports of injuries from the incident — to residents or fire personnel — a dog is believed to have allegedly died in the fire.

"Until we actually are able to get in and do a proper investigation without the structure being compromised for the safety of our staff, we won't be able to confirm the status of a dog [in the house]," said Ogloff.

Investigators are set to remain on scene today (June 11).
