Captain Ryan Tattle scored three times, and goalie Carter Woodside made 53 saves as the Coquitlam Express tied their best-of-seven playoff series with the Chilliwack Chiefs after a 4-2 win Tuesday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
Both teams have won two games, with the fifth game scheduled for Thursday at the Chilliwack Coliseum before they return to Coquitlam for game six on Saturday.
Tattle scored twice in the first period and once in the second to lead the Express offence, but it was Woodside’s performance in net that had the crowd buzzing and Chiefs’ players looking skyward whenever they skated back to their bench. Of the 55 shots he faced in total, 28 came in the second period.
But only Dawson Good was able to beat Woodside high on the glove side while his Chiefs had a man advantage late in the frame.
Connor Milburn had the other Chilliwack goal, midway through the first period, while Trevor O’Brien scored the first goal for Coquitlam just 2:32 after the opening faceoff. Neither team scored in the third period.
Matthew Campbell pitched in three assists for the home team, which fired 25 shots at Chilliwack goalie Grant Riley. Only four of them were in the second period.
