Powell River Kings head coach Brock Sawyer is preparing a new group of players for the upcoming BC Hockey League season.

Powell River Kings announced a flurry of activity in the lead-up to the start of the BC Hockey League season.

Eleven players were added to the 2020/2021 roster, including two from Powell River: goaltender Nick Peters and defender Keagen Abbott.

The new additions bolster the team’s lineup to 25 players, which is needed for a full roster.

“We are excited to have these players join us for the season,” stated Kings head coach Brock Sawyer, in a media release. “Unfortunately for many of them, their seasons were cancelled earlier in the year and we are fortunate they have committed to joining us during this time.”

New players include goaltender Jakob Drapeau from Prince George; defenders Sam Belanger from Montreal; Curtis Gould from Princeton, BC; Brody Johnston from Vanderhoof, BC; Dylan Malarchuk from Calgary; and forwards Lex Friesen from Brandon, Manitoba; Tyden McWillis from Kelowna; Aaron Neal from North Vancouver; and Branden Toye from Kamloops.

“I am confident that they can integrate with our group and contribute well,” stated Sawyer. “This is an opportunity for the players to showcase themselves and we are happy as an organization to provide that to them.

“I am sure the players who have been here all year will do a good job welcoming them to the Kings and helping them adjust to Junior A hockey.”
