New seating on Queen of Surrey causes double takes

BC Ferries has been rearranging the deck chairs on the Queen of Surrey, or at least adding deck chairs.

Some travellers on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route have been posting photos on social media of a row of Adirondack-style chairs and benches in the ferry corporation’s signature blue on the area of the upper car deck where it narrows because of the back-up ramp. There’s even a potted plant.

Comments have ranged from curiosity to criticism of not using the space for vehicles.

Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries told Coast Reporter they no longer park vehicles on that part of the decks of the C-Class ferries because it’s too narrow for passengers to exit without banging the doors.

Marshall said the crew on the Queen of Oak Bay was the first to add some seating, and it’s now being done on the Surrey as well.

According to Marshall, the arrangement has proven very popular with dog owners, who can’t take their pets above the car decks, as well as other travellers.
