Earth Month

At the City of Powell River council meeting on Thursday, March 21, mayor Dave Formosa proclaimed April 2019 as Earth Month in Powell River and encouraged all residents to participate in the variety of earth-related activities taking place in the community during this time and beyond. On Monday, April 1, at noon, there will be an Earth Month flag raising ceremony at City Hall. There will also be an electric vehicle and e-bike rally at Willingdon Beach on Monday, April 22, from 11 am to 3 pm.

Reserve account

Council also approved the establishment of a sports hall of fame financial reserve to be used for future sports hall of fame events and projects. Councillor Jim Palm said the sports hall of fame committee is reaching out to a number of sponsors to raise funds to put on this event. With the reserve account, when people are sponsoring, they will know the money is not going into general revenues at city hall, and that the money will be used specifically for future sports hall of fame inductions, according to Palm.

Board members

Council also approved the appointment of Rod Tysdal, Ron Fuller and Rob Stewart to Powell River Community Forest Ltd. for three-year terms effective April 23, 2019.
