Hears lease agreement
A 25-year lease is being prepared for Powell River Public Library’s new home on Alberni Street. City of Powell River councillors heard the first details of the lease from chief financial officer Kathleen Day at the city’s finance committee meeting on October 26. The city has set the annual lease for the space at approximately $209,000; a two per cent increase will be added in each of the next three fiscal years. Of the total, the city is responsible for contributing $147,000 due to its 70/30 partnering agreement with Powell River Regional District. The regional district will contribute $62,000 annually. Council will approve the lease agreement at an upcoming meeting.

Councillor takes extended leave
City of Powell River councillor Karen Skadsheim is away on an extended leave of absence and not planning to return to handle city council business until January, mayor Dave Formosa told the finance committee. Formosa said he discussed the matter with Skadsheim and that she was taking the time for personal reasons, although she agreed to return to handle in-camera issues, if warranted.
