Powell River bylaw amendment stipulates electric fence standard

Fences now legal throughout the city

Electric fences within the City of Powell River must meet industry standards in order to be compliant with the city’s bylaws.

At the Thursday, October 3, city council meeting, councillors passed an amendment to the city’s animal control bylaw, stipulating that only Canadian Standards Association or Underwriters Laboratories of Canada-approved electric fence controllers are permitted.

Electric fences are now legal throughout the city of Powell River.

Councillor Rob Southcott said he was glad to see the amendment pass and he thanked corporate officer Chris Jackson for the work he has done on electric fencing.

“It’s just one example of a lot of work we take for granted,” said Southcott.
