Sunshine Coast RCMP say the search for a missing Sunshine Coast man has ended with the discovery of a body near Powell River on the weekend.

Jesse Farrand was last seen taking his kayak into the water at the bottom of Roberts Creek Road on Aug. 19.  Three days later a kayak believed to be Farrand's was found by guests staying at an Airbnb at Black Point in Powell River. The guests of the house originally thought the kayak had fallen from a passing boat, but contacted police after reading the Coast Reporter story about the search.

On Aug 25, Sunshine Coast RCMP released a statement saying they "are saddened to report that a body believed to be that of kayaker Jesse Farrand, who has been missing since Monday from Roberts Creek, has been located off of Powell River.”

RCMP also thanked Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue,  Airspan, BC search dogs, RCMP Air 8, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and “all the family and friends who searched tirelessly to find Jesse.”

RCMP said out of respect for the family, no further information would be released.
