UPDATED: Wildfire service responds to fire northeast of Powell River

Updated Friday, August 17 The small Phelan Lake fire that BC Wildfire Service reported on August 16 is now out. It was initially reported as human caused, but that has since been changed to lightning.

The small Phelan Lake fire that BC Wildfire Service reported on August 16 is now out. It was initially reported as human caused, but that has since been changed to lightning.

Powell River Wildfire Service Initial Attack crew responded on August 16, left the site that night and returned in the morning of August 17, when they determined the fire was out.

BC Wildfire Service reported a fire in Powell River’s backcountry on Thursday, August 16.

The fire is located north of Phelan Lake, approximately 50 kilometres northeast of Powell River in the Lois Lake watershed.

BC Wildfire Service stated that an initial attack crew responded this afternoon and that the fire has not spread.

The fire is approximately 0.01 hectares.
