Check it out.

LDN or Low Dose Naltrexone was patented in 1984 for the treatment of opioid addictions. It has also been used exclusively for the preventing opioid overdoses of fentanyl.

Exciting new research has emerged using a very low dose of naltrexone from .5 mg to 4.5 mg can be very effective for the treatment of a number of medical conditions such as autoimmune conditions, inflammatory conditions, opioid depression, and PTSD.

The main effect of LDN from 1.75 to 4.5 mg is it acts on three endorphin receptors to stimulate the release of endorphins from the body.

Mechanism of action. The following are the three most prominent actions of LDN.

-action on opioid receptors to increase the release of endorphins

- the ability to reduce pro inflammatory cytokinesis

- regulation of the opioid growth factor and opioid growth receptors

Autoimmune activity  - some of the most prevalent auto-immune conditions conducive to LDN therapy include rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Based on literature, LDN offers a good option for those seeking pain relief with very low to no side effects.

An adult study of the use of LDN using 4.5 mg on 17 patients with Crohn’s disease showed a 67 percent improvement and remission of symptoms. The improvement showed in Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and a C – reactive protein.

Measures of inflammation results in the body were significantly reduced.

Oral use.  Most LDN is prescribed at bedtime however if patients report insomnia then taking a dose in the am can be an alternative.

Vivid dreams are the more common reported side effect when taken at night. This however seems to decrease after a few nights less common headache are very rare and mild.  No other side effects.

No other side effects such as stomach ulcers, renal impairment, or interaction with anti clotting medication has ever been reported.

Treating the symptoms of pain using LDN. As a mono-therapy, does not always work, however if the patient’s condition is highly inflammatory, (rheumatoid arthritis, IBS) LDN may itself be able to be very helpful.

For pain management. LDN has its foundation in the ability to increase endorphins and ease of pain, and decrease pro inflammatory cyto kinesis.  Special published studies on the use of LDN in patients suffering from fibromyalgia in a placebo control study with 31 women men using /.5 mg of LDN at bedtime; showed managed daily pain levels, improved mood and better quality of life.  In this study neither sleep or fatigue improved, however in 2004, a study with the same dose of 4.5 at bedtime improved fatigued, and stress.

History, medication, nutrition. Supplements as well as herbal formulas must be obtained LDN there are also literature supporting he use of medical cannabis (CBD as well). Combined with LDN. For the treatment of chronic pain and inflammation, that was extremely effective. However you must consult a health professional before you begin any treatment to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Sometimes patients who are on the typical does of 4.5 mg can experience a relapse or return of symptoms. The health practitioner should reduce or discontinue LDN for two weeks. (Rebound effect).  Then re-introduce LDN starting at a low does such at 1.5 mg and build back you through a increase does of .5 to 1 mg each week until the symptoms disappear or inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein or FSR markers are within range. It is important to track the levels of LDN and consult them with changes in symptomology, which means that the potent must be aware of the amount of LDN they are taking in relationship to the improvement symptomology.

Anti-inflammatory activity. The increase of endorphins to reduce pain is only one aspect of the LDN. Especially if pain is related to the inflammatory process LDN has been showed to reduce inflammation dramatically. It does this by reducing pro inflammatory cytokinesis which are chemical messages made by our immune cells whose net affect can increase or decrease immune function.

In an eight-week single blind study, using 4.5 mg of LDN each night levels of pro-inflammatory cytokinesis including Interleukin 2 and macrophages were significantly reduced when compared to baseline arthritis suffering from fibromyalgia.

The recommended dose is to start at .5 mg at bedtime followed by increases of .5 mg increments over 1 to 3 months. We are all different and we need to find specific doses that work for each person. For patients a thorough evaluation person to each dose increase is important as well as thorough medical history.

Published studies and research show that LDN can be used to increase motility in the digestion system, which is called a prokinetic.

A prokinetic is used to stimulate the migrating motor complex in the small intestines. This migrating motor complex is for motility and peristalsis and movement of food, bacteria as well as the guts cleaning and sweeping movement. This helps to clean up left over bacteria and food out of the small intestine into the large intestine.

We all know how it feels and sounds when your stomach growls or makes noise – is the stomach signally to us to have some food – however this is the migrating motor complex stimulating the small intestine to sweep and move bacteria and food out of the intestines and into the large bowel. This happens four hours after a meal.  If this nerve damage to the MMC is not resolved and treated with a prokinetic such as Low Dose Naltrexone or another motility agent, thane other conditions and symptoms can development, such as bloating, fullness, constipation, small intestine bacteria, and overgrowth SIBO.

In conclusion LDN can be a good option in the treatment of anti-inflammatory conditions of and pain, as it is very like is side effects and a good alternative to the other medications. LDN is administered by prescription and under the care of a licensed heath practitioner.
