I was a recent attendee for the April 2019 AVICC Conference and I wanted to say thank you [to City of Powell River mayor and council] for all of the effort your city went through to accommodate all of us [“Convention draws local politicians from around BC coast,” April 19].

I was especially impressed with your facility. Your twin rinks were well kept and, although sadly there wasn't a game on, I could feel the energy that must flow through your main arena.

Your pool is well designed, with a kids area, fitness rooms and all the amenities one could hope for.

I had the opportunity to take a small walk around the outside of your recreation centre and was amazed by your BMX/mountain-bike track, with varying levels of difficulty, which was adjacent to your skate parks.

I also had the pleasurable occasion on my last day there to watch and interact with some lovely seniors playing horseshoes. These wonderful folks were an absolute joy to talk to and reflected very well upon your community.

The music your arranged from PRISMA was beyond wonderful. If anyone can imagine being in a room full of networking politicians, all I can say is the music played was an oasis in the desert for me.

Lastly, I wanted to say a particular thank you to the young men and women you had bussing tables and serving food. They were all polite, courteous and professional, and although sadly, I noticed some politicians with a false sense of entitlement, not being overly courteous, nary a scowl hit any of their faces.

Your entire community stood very well in my eyes and for that, I sincerely thank you.
