Letter: Special visit to Powell River

The spectacular 2018 International Choral Kathaumixw was only possible because so many people worked to make it a success [“Youth light up choral festival,” July 13].

Among those people is my former student and 50-year friend, Deborah McIsaac. She made this Kathaumixw special for my friends and me in so many ways. First she arranged for my group of nine friends to use the lovely home of Allan and Wendy Barker while they were out of town. We send heartfelt thanks to the Barkers for this arrangement.

Deborah stocked the refrigerator and cupboards with groceries and delicious homemade goodies for great breakfasts and snacks. She also made reservations for excellent lunches out at local restaurants every day and prepared or helped us prepare dinner most evenings.

One evening was very special as we were hosted for dinner in the home of her son and family, Aaron and Simona Mazurek.

Of course she purchased our Kathaumixw tickets way in advance, so we had great seats on the main floor a few rows from each stage. She came to the house and escorted us to many concerts, which we enjoyed immensely. And then on Saturday afternoon she and her husband Paul accompanied us on a spectacular luncheon boat cruise to Desolation Sound.

Deborah is a marvel; I love and appreciate her so much. Thank you, Deborah, and all the other folks who make Kathaumixw happen. Thank you, Powell River, a great community in a beautiful setting.

I look forward to 2020 and another great Kathaumixw.
