With a little more than two weeks until voters go to the polls to choose who will represent Powell River as city councillors, the Peak asked all 13 candidates the following question: Why should Powell River vote for you?
Here is the reply from Jim Palm:
If you support the direction this community is heading; if you value the lifestyle and amenities Powell River has to offer, and you appreciate being able to call this beautiful city “home,” then vote for me.
In my first term Powell River was being threatened with the loss of the mill and the family-supporting jobs it provides; I continue to work to retain mill jobs.
I am committed to maximizing the value of our community’s assets to stimulate economic renewal. One success is the renewal of the Westview waterfront with its new public areas and facilities. We are working to stimulate the economy with good policies, including support for renovation of the mill administration building along with improvements to our airport and terminal. This will support the creation and retention of good jobs that benefit families.
I am running for re-election because I want to continue to build on the foundation which has marked my contribution to the community over three terms on council. I’m proud to have been part of a hardworking, collaborative and cost-conscious team. I will continue to listen to our citizens and to follow up with action.
I will support a positive working relationship with city management and employees as we continue to ensure your tax dollars benefit the community.
If re-elected, I will continue to foster a stronger economy, support renewal of local infrastructure, and plan for renewing recreational facilities.
Also, I will support the creation and adoption of a strong and affordable social plan.
