HOT TRIO: Dave Parenteau, Jim McNeil and Desi Lever were a hot trio in both games over the weekend. Parenteau is setting a torrid pace in playoffs so far. The shifty centre picked up five points on two goals and three assists in Friday’s game but was limited to one assist in Saturday’s game. In this photo, Parenteau is feeding a pass to McNeil, but the Port Alberni goaltender’s pad cuts off the puck as Doug Moriarty ties up McNeil in front of the net.

Alberni out, experience pays off

Barry Lang earned his name once again Saturday night: Mr. Playoff. It was his goal at 2:37 of overtime that gave the Regals the right to retain the Black Ball trophy for another year.

Lang started the proceedings off Friday in the Regals 8-4 first game win and he finished it Saturday night with Regals’ fifth goal to take the second game 5-4.

Powell River now meets Chemainus Blues in the first series of branch playdowns commencing Friday in Powell River. Because of scheduling and a few bloopers by other member leagues of BCAHA, Regals will play the rest of their hockey at home this year. This could terminate sometime in late May with the All Canada Final, which comes west this year.

It was quite a series with Alberni. There was a bit of everything. For the 100 or so fans who travelled to the island on the weekend, it was a taste of more to come.
