Powell River Kings advanced to the BC Hockey League Island Division final with a 5-1 win over the visiting Nanaimo Clippers on Thursday, March 7.

Mitchell Williams led the offensive attack in game five of the best-of-seven series, scoring twice in the second period after assisting on Neal Samanski’s third goal of the playoffs to opening the scoring 2:21 into the first. Ben Thomas scored his first of the post-season and Levi Glasman added his sixth of the series to round out the scoring for the Kings.

Goaltender Mitch Adamyk returned to the crease after being pulled before the start of the second period of game four and stopped 25 of 26 shots for his third win of the playoffs. Nanaimo goaltenders Landon Pavlisin and Jordan Naylor both saw action and combined to face 42 shots over three periods.

Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 1,040.

The four-games-to-one series win sets up a rematch of last season’s Island Division final against Victoria Grizzlies, a series the Kings also won in five games.

Due to finishing atop Island Division standings in the regular season, Grizzlies have home-ice advantage and will host games one and two of the second round before the series shifts to Powell River. Dates and times for the best-of-seven series have yet to be announced.
