A late third-period comeback fell just short for Powell River Kings on Friday, December 7, at Hap Parker Arena.

The visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks jumped out to a 1-0 first-period lead, then added two more goals in the middle frame to take a 3-0 lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes.

Michell Williams and Jack Long set up Josh Coblenz’s 12th goal of the season with 6:55 remaining in the game to give the home team some momentum. Williams and Ryan Brushett assisted on Neal Samanski’s sixth of the year to cut the lead to 3-2, but with only 35 seconds remaining in the game, the tally was too little and too late.

Kings goaltender Matteo Paler-Chow stopped 22 of 25 shots over the 60 minutes. Kings fired 35 shots at his counterpart, Nathan Langenegger, who was named second star of the game.

First star Noah Wakeford scored two of Salmon Arm’s three goals. Coblenz earned third star recognition. 876 fans attended the game.

Kings travel to Chilliwack today for a 7 pm game against the Chiefs. Chilliwack is three points behind Prince George for first place in the BC Hockey League Mainland Division with two games in hand. Powell River is six points behind Victoria for first place in the Island Division. Both teams have played 32 games.
