Powell River Kings finish road trip with loss in Washington

Powell River Kings’ four-game road trip prior to a holiday break in the BC Hockey League schedule ended with a 3-1 loss in Wenatchee, Washington, on Saturday, December 21.

Wenatchee built a 3-0 lead through two periods with a pair of goals in the opening frame and another in the second.

Powell River forward Nic Porchetta prevented his team from being shut out in consecutive games with a goal late in the third period.

Thomas Wardle made 27 saves for the visitors. Kings were outshot 30-16 in the game.

The teams combined to go zero for seven on power plays. Kings had four opportunities; the home team had three.

Attendance at Town Toyota Arena was 1,903.

Powell River finished the road trip with one win and three losses and fell behind Alberni Valley Bulldogs in the race for third place in Island Division standings. Bulldogs defeated Langley 6-4 the same night to move to 40 points, two ahead of the Kings.

Nanaimo Clippers lead the division with 52 points, two ahead of Cowichan Valley Capitals. Last place Victoria Grizzlies have 30 points after defeating Nanaimo, also on December 21.

Kings close out 2019 by hosting Nanaimo Clippers for a pair of games at Hap Parker Arena on Monday, December 30 (7 pm), and Tuesday, December 31 (5 pm).
